I think this is yet another case of the Internet being so new that we are making up our own rules as we go along. Good rules need time to ferment and foment.

Suggesting that someone you think is a spammer should be tagged as a spammer is like saying painting them with an indelible red letter "S" is an appropriate response.

That might work as a joke, but in reality it's just plain silly. Tagging spammers could be tag spam, possibly malicious tag spam. Why add more spam? Fighting fire with fire just makes more fire... and even in societies where an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth is legal, there is some sort of magistrate involved. Spammers should be deleted, reported or sent off to a honeypot, never ever spammed in return.

Where's Miss Manners, the Internet version, when you need her? Come out, come out wherever you are Miss Manners, and play some tag with us schmoes.
